
| KANIKSU CUTTING AND COW HORSE ASSOCIATION CUTTING GENERAL RULES / CLASS DESCRIPTIONS / BY LAWS (UPDATED MARCH 1, 2008) WELCOME TO THE KANIKSU CUTTING AND COW HORSE ASSOCIATION. The Kaniksu Cutting and Cow Horse Association (KCCHA) is a family orientated cutting and cow horse club dedicated to promoting the cutting horse and cow horse in the Northwest. The KCCHA has a series of cuttings throughout the year with year end awards to the high point members in each class. New members and guests are always welcome. We strive to promote the sport of cattle cutting and the cutting horse! KCCHA CUTTING RULES SECTION 1 GENERAL RULES 1. All riders and owners of horses must be a member of KCCHA to compete in any event. Anyone on horseback in the working arena must be a member of KCCHA. 2. All breeds of horses may compete in KCCHA events provided owners and/or riders are members in good standing. 3. Horses are to be judged on performance, regardless of breed, confirmation, sex, color, appearance or previous performance, using NCHA scoring guidelines’. 4. No training devices will be allowed on contestant’s horses in the show arena. (EXCEPTIONS) Two Handed Open, $500 Two Hand and Two Handed Beginner classes may use a running martingale but no other training device. Helping horses may use a running martingale but no other training device. 5. Anyone in the working arena on horseback is required to wear appropriate western apparel: i.e, western hat, western boots, long sleeved shirt with buttons or snap down the front. Pullover sweaters, T-shirts, and slipover knits are not permissible. Summertime exemption for July, August, and September: Short sleeve (or sleeveless for women) button up western shirts will be allowed. 6. To qualify for KCCHA year-end points and awards, the horse and or rider must show in at least four (4) qualifying shows and all KCCHA shows will count for year-end points. (Note specific class’s state points are either on horse and rider as a team or on the horse) 7. A representative of the Board of Directors is to serve as liaison to settle disputes between a contestant and the show management and to inform and enforce the rules at each show. A liaison representative will be appointed at the beginning of each show. 8. The contestant must call for cattle by the Thursday prior to the day of the show. Anyone calling for cows after Thursday will ride on rerun cattle at the end of the herd. Once a contestant calls for cows he/she will be charged for cattle. Exceptions will be considered by the Liaison Director. 9. A contestant that has been called three (3) times without acknowledgement shall lose his/her ride, and will still be held responsible for payment of cattle. 10. The Liaison Director has the right to disqualify, refuse entry, or eject from the premises any contestant for misconduct or harassment of the judge, show management, employees, other contestants or spectators, or anyone with an out of control horse or abusing their horse. 11. Any complaint must be filed in writing with the KCCHA President within seven (7) days of the show. 12. Judges scoring may not be questioned by contestants. Run content may be discussed at the end of the day. 13. For the year-end awards, points will be awarded to the HORSE in the OPEN, $10000 NOVICE HORSE, $3000 NOVICE HORSE, and $250 NOVICE HORSE classes. Year end points will be awarded to the RIDER in the NON PRO, $2000 LIMIT RIDER and $500 NOVICE RIDER classes. All other classes are considered a HORSE and RIDER team and points are awarded on that basis. Substitution of a horse for cause must be approved by the Liaison Director prior to the substitute horse being show. 14. Any horse and rider officially graduates from a class after wining 1st place in year end points awards or exceeding the class money limits in the following classes: $3000 NOVICE, $500 NOVICE and $500 TWO HAND. 15. No horse or rider shall be permitted to compete in a class which they are not eligible. Eligibility will be determined on the basis of KCCHA rules, Section III, Classes and Class descriptions. 16. Returned checks will be charged $25.00. A member is not in good standing until this charge is paid to the Treasurer. Upon second returned check, the member is put on a cash basis for the remainder of the year. 17. No dogs will be allowed in the working arena. All dogs must be kept on a leash. 18. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. 19. It is the competitor’s responsibility to know the show rules for KCCHA shows and any breach of the above stated show rules as pertains specifically to the actual show will result in a score of “0” and no year-end points will be awarded for that class at that show. 20. Any class in the buckle series with only one competing ride will not receive a buckle award for the year-end. Two or more qualifying riders must be competing, each riding in a minimum of four (4) shows. You must take it upon yourself to move up or down to another class to qualify for a buckle. SECTION II – POINTS 1. Points for all year-end awards for KCCHA shows are compiled as follows: 1st place ***** 5 points 2nd place ***** 4 points 3rd place ***** 3 points 4th place ***** 2 points 5th place ***** 1 point One point per member’s horse in each class is allowed. First place getting five (5) points if five participants are in the class; (2) points will be allowed if two participants in the class, etc. 2. In the event of a tie, points are combined then divided equally among the horses involved. 3. Money payout schedule as follows: 1 through 3 riders 100% 4 through 8 riders 60 / 40 % split 9 or more riders 50 / 30 / 20 / % split SECTION III – CLASSES AND CLASS DECRIPTIONS (NCHA rules will apply to all classes unless otherwise noted) (Eligibility – see rule 14 Section 1) OPEN – Open to any rider and any horse NON-PRO – Open to any non-pro rider and any horse they own. $10,000 NOVICE HORSE – A horse that has not won over $10,000 lifetime in cutting and any rider. $3000 NOVICE HORSE – A horse that has not won over $3000 lifetime in cutting and any rider. $2000 LIMIT RIDER – A rider that has not won over $2000 lifetime in cutting – any horse may be ridden. Holders of a NCHA Non-Professional cards may compete in this class without jeopardizing their non-pro status. $500 NOVICE RIDER – A rider that has not won over $500 lifetime in cutting and any horse. $250 NOVICE HORSE – A horse that has not one over $250 lifetime in cutting and any rider. MASTERS CLASS - Rider must be 50 years of age or over and may ride any horse. This is a one handed class. NCHA Rules apply. TWO HAND OPEN – Open to all horse and riders. You must ride two-handed in any legal bit and use of a martingale is permitted. Any horse and rider competing for a buckle in a one handed class cannot ride for a buckle in this class. This class is designed for members and trainers to ride snaffle/hackamore horses not yet in a stiff bit. Feel free to use this class for a practice class. $500 TWO HAND NOVICE/NOVICE – A novice rider that has not won over $500 lifetime in cutting and a novice horse that has not won over $500 lifetime in cutting. Must ride two handed in any legal bit and use of martingale is permitted. Any horse and rider competing for a buckle in a one handed class cannot ride for a buckle in this class. (For year end points, this is a horse and rider team class). TWO HAND BEGINNER – A beginner non-pro rider that has not won any money in cutting. Must ride two handed in any legal bit and use of martingale is permitted. Any horse and rider competing for a buckle in a one handed class cannot ride for a buckle in this class. (For year end points, this is a horse and rider team class). RANCH HORSE CLASS – Open to any rider and horse, this is a one handed class with no penalty for stopping your horse on the ends. (For year end points, this is a horse and rider team class). YOUTH CLASS – Rider must be eighteen (18) years of age or younger as of January 1 of the current show year and can ride any horse. Youth riders may ride two-handed. BY-LAWS ARTICLE 1 – NAME AND PURPOSE Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the Kaniksu Cutting and Cow Horse Association (KCCHA). Section 2: The purpose of the Kaniksu Cutting and Cow Horse Association is to improve the quality of cutting and the cow horse in the northwest; to promote interest in cutting and the cow horse; to promote interest in cutting and the cow horse among the younger horsemen; and to establish cutting and cow horse contest and events with standard rules for judging and competing. Section 3: The principle place of business of this Association shall be the home of the Secretary elected by the Association. ARTICLE II – MEMBERS Section 1: Membership will be open to any reliable person, firm or corporation. A membership will be for one individual or for a family which shall include a husband and wife and all children under 18 years of age. Individual memberships are entitled to one (1) vote. Family memberships are entitled to two (2) votes. Section 2: Each member or family membership shall pay annual dues which will be decided upon by the Board of Directors. Section 3: The Board of Directors shall have the power to deny membership or take away membership to persons whose conduct is unacceptable. Section 4: A membership year will run from January 1 to December 31. No membership fees will carry over from one membership year to the next. ARTICLE III – MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS Section 1: An annual membership meeting will be held and the time and the place for the meeting will be decided by the Board of Directors. Special meetings of the membership may be called by a majority vote of the Board of Directors or on call of the President. The Board of Directors shall call a special meeting of the membership upon written request of 15 voting members of the Association. Section 2: Notice of the time and place of the regular or special meetings of the membership shall be sent by regular mail to all members at least ten (10) days prior to such meetings. ARTICLE IV – OFFICERS Section 1: The officers of this Association shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, all to be elected by the general membership. The President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer will be current members of the Board of Directors and must be club members in good standing. Officers shall be elected for a period of one (1) year. Section 2: The President will preside at all regular and special meetings and perform other duties as are usually attached to the office. The President shall appoint committees with the approval of the Board. The President shall vote only in the event of a tie. Section 3: The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President when the latter is absent. Section 4: The Secretary and Treasurer shall perform the usual duties dependent upon such an officer. The Secretary will take minutes at all meetings of the Association and of the Board of Directors, shall preserve all papers, letters and keep accurate records of the names and addresses of all members. The Treasurer shall keep accurate records of the transactions of the Association, shall collect, receive and have financial standings whenever requested to do so: and make a full report to the Association at each annual meeting. ARTICLE V – BOARD OF DIRECTORS Section 1: The management of the affairs, property, business and control of policy is vested in the Board of Directors. Section 2: The Board of Directors will consist of a minimum of seven (7) or a maximum of nine (9) members in good standings as elected by the general membership. Section 3: The initial term of the Board of Directors will be four (4) Directors elected for two (2) years and three (3) directors elected for one (1) year, with all subsequent Directors elected for two (2) year terms as initially staggered four (4) and three (3). Section 4: Four (4) directors will constitute a quorum at any meeting of the Board of directors. Section 5: Newly elected directors shall assume their duties as of January 1 of the new membership year. The directors shall have meetings as often as they feel is necessary and as requested by members as provided for in Article III. Section 6: Any director missing three (3) consecutive board meetings will be automatically removed as a director, but can be reinstated by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. Section 7: Vacancies will be filled by the majority vote of the Board of Directors. Section 8: To aid and assist in the orderly growth of the Association, the Board of Directors may as it deems necessary, establish certain executive position and committees. Section 9: The Board of Directors will take action to collect on past due outstanding debts owed to the Association. ARTICLE VI - Elections Section 1: Elections will take place at an annual general membership meeting that will be designated by the Board of Directors in November or December of each year, weather permitting. Section 2: The Board of Directors will appoint a nominating committee. Other nominations for Directors will be taken from the floor at the annual meeting. Section 3: The Board of Directors will provide the means for voting by the general membership on any issues requiring a vote during the membership year. The Directors may issue absentee ballots, proxy forms and or call a special meeting of the general membership. ARTICLE VII – BY LAWS Section 1: The By-Laws may be repealed, modified or amended by a two-thirds vote of all voting members present at the annual election meeting of the Association. Section 2: Any revision to existing By-Laws must be submitted to Directors sixty (60) days prior to the annual meeting. The Association Secretary will then notify the general membership thirty (30) days prior to the annual meeting. Adopted by votes of the general membership for 2008. |
